Russian border guards heroically serve on the borders of the country

A new generation of border guards continues the glorious traditions of heroes today. They serve both in the cold and in the heat in the most remote corners of the country, but the task is always the same — to keep the borders of Russia "locked". Evgeny Podtergera, a correspondent for Izvestia, told how the Russian borders from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok are being guarded on May 28.

The border of Primorsky Krai is one of the longest in the country. The area of responsibility of this outpost alone is tens of kilometers of taiga and fields.

"The control lane is a part of the state border surrounded by barbed wire. If a thorn is touched, the border guards will receive a signal. In addition, the surrounding area has been dug up, so that the violator is guaranteed to leave traces here, which can easily be found," the correspondent said.

Every inch of the security perimeter is under the cameras. Two years ago, conscripts returned to the border service after a long break. Everyone has been trained at a special training center.

"These are elite troops, because not everyone can serve here. It's very difficult at first," said Private Rodion.

After hours of daily training, the emergency response team detains the intruder. Dogs are the main assistants of the border guards, despite all the technology. They serve at this outpost like people. Once upon a time, Nikita Karatsupa, the legendary founder of official cynology, guarded the border here.

Sergei, the counselor of the border outpost, and his four-legged partner have 467 arrests, including particularly dangerous saboteurs.

"We are with him all the time. It's not just that I took him out of the enclosure, ran and put him in the enclosure. There are outfits where we serve together for three or four hours. There were cases in my practice that I was warming myself on the dog because it was cool in winter. That's right, a dog is a friend," Sergey emphasized.

One of the checkpoints from Russia to China is just around the corner. Work here has changed forever after the turn of the Russian economy to the East and the introduction of a visa-free regime with China.

Thousands of tourists cross the border in both directions every day. Border guards inspect up to 300 heavy trucks every day. They are the first to welcome all foreigners.

"If a person is worried, of course we can support them. If a person is unhappy or outraged about something, we will, of course, support them, but the main task is to do their job," said Elena, an employee of the border department of the FSB of Russia in Primorsky Krai.

The job is to protect the country from saboteurs and smugglers. The Pskov Region borders two NATO countries at once. The drone patrol is used here as a means of modern monitoring, while ATVs are used to quickly intercept and block intruders.

"The Border Guard Service is developing dynamically, new technologies are being introduced that allow us to collect the situation at the branch site in real time and respond to it in a timely manner," said Alexey, an employee of the border department of the FSB of Russia in the Pskov region.

On the water — in lakes, rivers and the sea — the borders are controlled by groups on high-speed patrol boats.

"The division of border patrol boats is constantly being replenished with new boat crews. There were boats in 2022, and boats are expected this year," said Mikhail, commander of the border patrol boat division.

Putin praised the steadfastness of the Russian Armed Forces and called on the special services not to disrupt the negotiations between Moscow and Washington.

The head of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, said on the same day that the Russian border troops had been demonstrating their high professionalism in protecting state borders for decades. He recalled that the Russian Federation has the longest state border in the world, exceeding 60 thousand km.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also congratulated the personnel, civilian personnel and veterans of the border guard service of the FSB of the Russian Federation on Border Guard Day. He noted the rich history of the Russian border guard service and its importance during the Great Patriotic War.
