The day after the publication of Izvestia about the digital gratitude from the viewers of Pokrovka.The theater" has completed the experiment. They announced this in their Telegram channel. It follows from the message that the project was working in a test mode and was temporary.
"The theater will continue to develop modern ways of communicating with the audience, while maintaining respect for the theatrical tradition and the profession of an artist. We thank the audience for their attention, support and concern for the theater," they wrote in the post.
Prior to that, artistic director Dmitry Bikbaev told Izvestia that the theater "does not collect any additional payments and does not participate in the cash flow. This is an exceptional opportunity for the viewer to express personal gratitude to the artist, whose work he was particularly touched by."
Earlier, Izvestia reported that the audience "Pokrovka.Theater" after the performances, it was proposed to support the artists they liked not with flowers, but with money transfers through a special digital platform. The initiative has caused a wide response in the professional community.
For example, Kirill Krok, director of the Vakhtangov Theater, told Izvestia that he would never have introduced such a system, since the theater is "not a service industry." The idea was rejected by the rector of GITIS Grigory Zaslavsky. According to him, a similar mechanism was proposed for student performances to support students, but concerns were raised about the risk of social stratification among students.
The attitude towards the initiative within the theater itself turned out to be ambiguous. Honored Artist of Russia Yulia Avsharova told Izvestia that she herself had received several translations from the audience, but saw an alarming trend in this practice.
"They transferred two hundred rubles to me with a wonderful letter thanking me. It was funny. But, in my opinion, this is a terrible trend of our time — we are turning into a service industry," said the actress.
At the same time, some representatives of the theatrical community positively reacted to the experiment, noting that digital tips can become additional support for artists whose salaries often remain low. Opponents of the initiative, on the contrary, compared this practice with the tipping system in the restaurant industry and insisted that theatrical art should not be based on such principles.
