Russians talked about the impact of smoking on relationships and partner choice
Smoking remains a significant factor for most users when evaluating a potential partner and often causes them to refuse to communicate. This follows from a study conducted by the online dating service Mamba, which was reviewed on May 29 by Izvestia.
According to the survey, the majority of users do not smoke: 84% of women and 66% of men. At the same time, information about bad habits in the questionnaire is treated carefully: 92% of women and 86% of men check it before making a decision about dating.
Cigarette photos in the profile are more often perceived negatively: 79% of respondents said that such pictures are repulsive, while only 1% of women and 2% of men consider them attractive. The most positive reaction is caused by photos in nature, traveling, at the gym and in cafes.
The attitude towards smoking during acquaintance remains predominantly negative. Among men, 40% are categorically not ready to start a relationship with a smoking girl, 16% allow communication only with the intention to give up a bad habit, and a third is ready to make an exception with strong sympathy. Among women, 41% admit meeting a smoking man if they like him, but 33% consider smoking a reason to refuse.
E-cigarettes are not perceived as an alternative: 61% of men and women treat vaping in the same way as regular smoking, and about a quarter of respondents said that such devices irritate them even more.
The romanticization of smoking has largely been lost. 90% of men and 93% of women believe that a cigarette does not add attractiveness. At the same time, smoking is more often associated with fatigue and stress: men note tired and nervous appearance in women who smoke, and women note similar features in men who smoke.
The smell of tobacco remains a separate factor: 63% of respondents consider it repulsive, and more than half of respondents admitted that they are not ready to kiss a smoker. In general, smoking is increasingly perceived as a marker of an unhealthy lifestyle, rather than as an element of an attractive image.
At the same time, the majority of survey participants are confident that quitting smoking is possible only with personal motivation.: 65% of men and 71% of women think so. Most also do not consider "social smoking" as a harmless habit.
On April 1, therapist and pulmonologist Marat Farrakhov spoke about the dangers of vaping for the lungs. He warned that, despite the absence of tobacco in the composition, electronic cigarettes contain many chemical compounds that form an aerosol when heated. It contains nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerin and various flavors.
