Armenia's policy towards Russia today can hardly be called balanced. This was announced on May 28 at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, answering a question from Izvestia.

"Russia has never been against Armenia's diversification of foreign relations, but the current line of the Armenian authorities can hardly be called that, it can hardly be called balanced at all," Zakharova said.

The diplomat added that Moscow notes Yerevan's demonstrative connivance of the Western campaign to stimulate anti-Russian sentiments. She also drew attention to the fact that Armenia cooperates with Western states in those areas where it has traditionally cooperated with Russia.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia also sees a parade of declarations signed by Armenia with the countries of the European Union (EU) that want to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.

On the same day, Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev stated that if Armenia joins the EU, Russia will not be able to supply gas to it at the same cost, since the combined prices for such goods are many times higher. Membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as explained by the head of the Ministry of Energy, allowed Yerevan, among others, to receive oil and gas at fairly favorable prices.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in turn, said yesterday that relations between Russia and Armenia are currently at a stage of positive transformation. Pashinyan indicated that the decision on Armenia's further membership in the EAEU or accession to the European Union (EU) will be made by the citizens of the country. The head of the Armenian government noted that his key task is to ensure the possibility of choice for the population.
