Psychologist and HR expert gave tips on minimizing burnout during the hot season
The summer period is often perceived as a time of rest and deceleration, however, for working people it can become an additional stress factor. About why emotional stress increases during the hot season, how the feeling of burnout is formed and why many people are thinking about changing jobs, in the Izvestia article.
Causes of seasonal stress
Summer work cycles are perceived to be more difficult due to internal conflict. In humans, summer is associated with vacations, family, and a slowdown in the pace of life. When reality demands high productivity, it feels like life is passing you by. The psychological state is also complicated by changes in the environment: social networks are filled with images of other people's vacations, and many colleagues go on vacation, which reduces motivation.
Maria Todorova, a child and family psychologist, noted that it is important to maintain contact with loved ones for recovery. From the point of view of Gordon Neufeld's theory of attachment, emotional health depends on a sense of security and intimacy, so you should not try to cope with overloads in isolation.
Symptoms of burnout
According to Todorova, people often confuse the first signs of exhaustion with ordinary fatigue. These include constant irritation, sleep problems, decreased concentration, and a sense of meaninglessness. Physically, burnout can manifest itself in the form of headaches, hypersensitivity to noise, and feelings of exhaustion from the very morning.
"The status in which rest ceases to help should be of particular concern. If a person does not feel relief after the weekend, this indicates a serious overload of the nervous system. It is important not to wait for a vacation as the only salvation and regularly provide yourself with new emotional experiences," the expert said.
Office productivity
The working capacity of employees becomes unstable in the summer. Independent HR expert Anna Alikova emphasized that at temperatures above 26-27 degrees, the brain begins to "shut down" and the schedule becomes ragged. July and January are considered to be the most difficult months for office staff. In the middle of summer, the heat coincides with the need to close tasks half a year before the holiday season.
Companies use various methods of staff support, including the installation of air conditioners, the organization of "fruit days" and the introduction of flexible schedules. Remote work and shortened Fridays are considered particularly effective measures. According to Alikova, this gives people the opportunity to combine work with trips to nature and increases overall efficiency.
"Udalenka is generally a summer salvation. You can work in comfortable light clothes, fan yourself with a fan, and not spend an hour on stuffy transport," the specialist said.
