- AP has learned of Trump's order to end the persecution of Venezuela's interim president
US President Donald Trump has ordered an end to the persecution of Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodriguez. This was reported on May 28 by the Associated Press (AP), citing sources.
"The Trump administration has secretly instructed federal prosecutors in Miami to avoid a criminal investigation into Rodriguez," the material says.
According to the agency, the decision is connected, among other things, with the desire of the US administration to prevent the disruption of efforts to stabilize the situation in Venezuela. It is noted that Rodriguez has been under the radar of American federal law enforcement agencies since 2018, but she has not been formally charged.
In addition, the Venezuelan politician was suspected of possible involvement in facilitating drug trafficking, gold smuggling and money laundering.
Also in April, the United States lifted sanctions against Rodriguez. However, the reason for this decision was not specified then. At the same time, in January, American intelligence expressed concerns about cooperation with the interim president of Venezuela against the background of Caracas' unwillingness to sever ties with its international allies.
