Rakova told about the rescue of a pregnant patient with a rare pathology in Moscow

The capital's doctors performed a unique operation for a pregnant patient with a rare pathology, a baggy aortic arch aneurysm. This was stated by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

A woman on the 28th week of pregnancy was admitted to the Yudin Hospital with severe chest pain. A CT scan revealed a baggy aneurysm — a local expansion of the vessel with a thinning of its wall — the aortic arch with a diameter of 30 mm. "It was a direct threat to her life due to the high risk of rupture of the vessel. In a short time, surgeons at Yudin Hospital performed a high-tech hybrid endoprosthetics operation. Thanks to the coordinated actions of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, it was possible to stabilize the patient's condition and save the pregnancy," said Rakova.

At 37 weeks, the woman gave birth to a baby girl. Now the young mother's life and health are out of danger. "This case is an important event not only in Russia, but also in the entire global medical practice," the deputy mayor emphasized.

Mortality in pregnant patients with this form of aortic pathology ranges from 50 to 88% due to the extremely high risks of vascular rupture in the late stages and in the early postpartum period. Isolated clinical cases of successful aortic arthroplasty during pregnancy have been published in the medical literature.

The Vice Mayor noted that taking care of the health of expectant mothers and their children is one of the most important priorities of the capital. "We have introduced a new standard of obstetric and gynecological care, continue to equip maternity hospitals with advanced technology, and build modern perinatal centers. A well—developed infrastructure framework and high professionalism of doctors allow us to cope with the most difficult clinical cases," added Rakova.
