- Polyansky announced the West's approach to the border of direct involvement in the conflict in Ukraine
Western countries have come close to directly participating in the conflict in Ukraine, Dmitry Polyansky, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), told Izvestia on May 27.
According to the diplomat, Western countries are not trying to provoke a conflict "here and now" because they recognize that they are not ready for this at the moment. However, they set themselves the task of preparing for a direct confrontation within three to seven years. At the moment, Polyansky believes, Brussels is "testing the limits of Moscow's flexibility."
"But it's difficult to do. Because now they are very close to direct participation in military operations, and, naturally, if there is a direct production of drones there, we have every reason to strike at them. Our respected military knows exactly what to do in such cases," the expert noted.
Thus, the diplomat recalled that Russia would consider military installations located on the territory of Western countries that supply UAVs to the Kiev regime as legitimate targets.
"The problem is that Western countries often interpret our patience and our humanity as a sign of weakness. And they are doing it absolutely for nothing," he said.
On May 27, European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius called on the European Union (EU) countries to open their arms stocks to support Ukraine. According to Kubilius, European countries are lagging behind Russia in terms of production of missiles and weapons. He noted that EU defense companies produce too complex and expensive equipment, the production of which is difficult to quickly increase.
Before that, on May 26, the head of the State Duma's defense committee, Andrei Kartapolov, said that the West would independently hand over President Vladimir Zelensky to Russia when he had completely exhausted his resources. According to him, Western countries will try to distance themselves from the process as much as possible.
