Chinese cars turned out to be the leaders in accidents in Russia, they were included in the statistics of CTP insurance cases 33% more often than other models. On May 28, analysts of the Renaissance Insurance group told Izvestia about this, who studied the statistics on insurance claims. Uzbek cars were the second most dangerous (26%), while Korean-made cars were in third place (16%).

According to the company, the older the car, the less likely its owner becomes the culprit of an accident. At the same time, the difference in accident statistics between cars produced no earlier than 2021 and those produced before 2007 differs by almost one and a half times (125% versus 84%, respectively) The exception was cars from Uzbekistan — even with age, they continue to show a high accident rate (115% of the total share of accidents), experts said.

The owners of English car brands are the least likely to cause accidents — they caused collisions 24% less often compared to the general accident rate. Swedish (23% less likely), Japanese (10%), French (9%), American (6%) and German (5%) cars were also among the safest.

"It's not at all about the technical characteristics of cars, but about the popularity of automakers for use in commercial fleets. Even despite the higher professionalism of commercial transport drivers on average, due to the mileage of three to four times more personal cars, the accident rate in many fleets is significantly higher than that of the average private driver. Therefore, the more popular the brand is in fleets, the higher the average number of accidents. The same applies to car couriers on Uzbek cars," explained Sergey Demidov, Vice President of Renaissance Insurance.

Among cars under the age of five, Chinese-made cars also topped the rating, with an accident rate of 141% of the total number of insured events. The top 3 anti-ratings among cars with a short service life also included cars made in Korea (137%) and Russia (136%).

In the group of cars produced 6-10 years ago, cars from Uzbekistan became the leader in accidents (137% of the average accident rate). Korean cars were also 32% more likely to cause accidents than others, Czech cars were 24% more likely, and domestic—made models exceed the average by 9%, experts estimated.

As reported on May 4, according to statistics from the VSK Insurance House, in the first quarter of 2026 Lada once again became the leader in the anti-rating of the most emergency vehicles in the country. Since the beginning of the year, the number of accidents involving Chinese cars and the proportion of women responsible for road accidents have also increased.
