Fines in Ukraine for deputies for using Russian in speech at official events are a state close to insanity. Alexander Sholokhov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture, expressed this opinion on Wednesday, May 27.

Earlier, the language Ombudsman of Ukraine, Elena Ivanovskaya, reported that a deputy of the Pervomaisky City Council of the Mykolaiv region was fined 8.5 thousand hryvnias (about 13 thousand rubles) in the country for using the Russian language at a session meeting.

"It's pointless to discuss, but this is already a state close to madness, this is already the field of other specialists," Sholokhov said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The publication "Country.ua" wrote on May 19 that the Ukrainian authorities are considering the possibility of increasing fines for companies that continue to systematically use the Russian language.

Russian Russian is currently subject to fines of up to 5.1 thousand hryvnias (8.2 thousand rubles) for the use of the Russian language, if the violation was recorded for the first time, and up to 12 thousand hryvnias (20 thousand rubles) for the repeated use of Russian.

Ivanovskaya reported on May 9 that the Ukrainian authorities called for the creation of a coordination headquarters for Ukrainization in the country, RT reports.
