The virologist estimated the probability of the spread of Ebola in Russia

Olga Karpova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Department of Virology at the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University, noted on Wednesday, May 27, the rationality of Rospotrebnadzor's actions to strengthen control over Ebola.

"Ebola is endemic (present in a specific geographical location. — Ed.) the disease. But control is definitely needed," she said in an interview with RT.

According to the virologist, this is not the first outbreak of Ebola.

"And I must say, the level of healthcare in endemic areas is not very high. Therefore, Rospotrebnadzor is doing everything right, control must be mandatory," Karpova stressed.

At the same time, she added that Russians should not be afraid of the appearance of the disease inside the country.

Earlier in the day, Rospotrebnadzor announced the strengthening of sanitary and quarantine control at checkpoints on the state border of the Russian Federation in connection with the outbreak of Ebola in Africa, according to the website. kp.ru .

The ministry noted that the risks of infection being imported into Russia are assessed as low, and no imported cases of the disease have been registered in the country at the moment. Control measures have been strengthened within the framework of the epidemiological safety system.

Rospotrebnadzor stressed that the Russian Federation has a comprehensive sanitary protection system aimed at preventing the importation of particularly dangerous infections. The situation is under the control of Rospotrebnadzor.
