There have been 292 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.

Over the past day, 292 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 25 people were killed and 352 injured. The number of dead drivers and passengers reached 21 people. This was reported to Izvestia on May 27 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

14 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, 17 more road users, including four children, needed medical help. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 78 accidents, 26 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 52 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, 76 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 29 child pedestrians, 22 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

Also, 70 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 75 young road users were injured, including 22 passengers, 24 drivers, eight of them were driving motor vehicles. Two children were killed, one of whom was driving a pit bike, and the other was a passenger in a passenger car.

So, in the Krasnodar Territory, at about midnight on 59 km of the federal highway R-217 Kavkaz, a 35-year-old car driver at an unregulated intersection when leaving a secondary road did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with a truck. Two passengers of a passenger car were killed in the accident, including a 15-year-old schoolboy who was in the back seat without using a seat belt. The culprit of the incident and another of his passengers were hospitalized with injuries.

In rural areas of the Moscow region, during the day, on 2 km of the Maloe Moskovskoe Betonnoe Koltso — Nashchekino Village regional highway, a 13-year-old pit bike driver did not provide an advantage in traffic when leaving a secondary road at an unregulated intersection and collided with a cargo GAZelle driven by a 38-year-old female driver. The deceased teenager rode a cross-country motorcycle without a helmet and, due to his young age, did not have a driver's license.

The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting driving without license and driving skills. Lack of control over children's behavior and leisure activities, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users. Administrative responsibility is provided for providing the opportunity to drive vehicles to children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category.

"Parents need to instill discipline and responsibility in their children. Adult road users should demonstrate safe behavior on the road by their own example, as well as regularly remind children of the need to strictly observe traffic rules. We also remind you that minors can drive mopeds and motorcycles on public roads no earlier than the age of 16 after completing training and obtaining a driver's license. Cross-country motorcycles and pitbikes, which are sports equipment, should be used only on specialized tracks and only for motor sports. On ordinary roads, as well as in populated areas, movement with their help is strictly prohibited," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Life plan: Cabinet of Ministers outlines ways to improve road safety

The death rate in road accidents is planned to be reduced by one and a half times by 2030.

On May 21, the Russian government approved an action plan for the implementation of a Strategy to improve road safety for the period up to 2030 and for the future up to 2036. The plan contains more than 260 events. The main goal of the strategy is to reduce road deaths by one and a half times by 2030 and twice by 2036 (compared to the level of 2023).
