- For the first time, the Supreme Court of Russia will summarize the practice in cases with AI
For the first time, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation will summarize judicial practice in cases related to artificial intelligence (AI). This was announced on May 27 by the press service of the supreme court.
"In order to form uniform approaches to law enforcement in the context of the rapid development of digital technologies, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov instructed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of court cases involving the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies," the message said.
The statement clarifies that such a summary is provided for the first time in the country and taking into account all types of legal proceedings.
It is noted that courts need to assess how often the use of AI becomes the subject of legal disputes or committed offenses. Special attention will be paid to compensation for damage that could arise as a result of the AI decision. In addition, the courts will have to sort out the issue of choosing the appropriate defendant for such claims.
Chairman of the Supreme Court Igor Krasnov announced on May 20 that Russia has launched pilot projects for the use of neural networks to reduce the burden on judges. According to him, it is fundamentally important that the decision is always made by a human, and artificial intelligence (AI) can only take on routine work. The main goals of the introduction of digital technologies are to make justice more convenient and accessible to citizens, as well as to free judges from their duties.
