Hungary refuses to withdraw from the International Criminal Court

On May 27, the Hungarian Parliament of the new convocation decided to terminate the procedure for the country's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC), which was initiated by the previous government led by Viktor Orban.

"133 deputies voted in support of the relevant bill, 37 voted against, and five abstained," Parliament Speaker Agnes Forsthoffer announced.

In May 2025, the Hungarian parliament approved a bill on withdrawal from the International Criminal Court. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and other politicians have said that the court has lost its independence and become politicized.

In October, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the ICC is a political body that "humiliates the phenomenon of judicial procedures and the work of the court." According to him, the turning point was the decision to issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
