- European Commissioner Kubilius called on EU countries to transfer weapons from stocks to Ukraine
European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius called on the European Union (EU) countries to open their arms stocks to support Ukraine. He stated this in an interview with the Financial Times (FT) on May 27.
According to Kubilius, European countries are lagging behind Russia in terms of production of missiles and weapons. He noted that EU defense companies produce too complex and expensive equipment, the production of which is difficult to quickly increase.
"Governments should open up their reserves to provide Ukraine with everything it needs," the European commissioner said.
Kubilius also called on European states to move towards the production of cheaper weapons and systems that can be produced faster and in large quantities. In his opinion, this will make it possible to more effectively support Kiev in a protracted conflict.
Dmitry Novikov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma's International Affairs Committee, said on May 18 that the current situation in the special military operation zone was not conducive to mutual understanding between Russia and Ukraine on the diplomatic track. He also pointed out that Russia would not see the readiness of the head of the Kiev regime to hold serious and thoughtful negotiations until massive pressure was exerted on him by Western countries.
Later, on May 26, the head of the State Duma's defense committee, Andrei Kartapolov, said that the West would independently hand Zelensky over to Russia when he had completely exhausted his resources. According to him, Western countries will try to distance themselves from the process as much as possible.
