More than 50 criminal cases were initiated due to counterfeit banknotes in Stavropol

Since the beginning of 2026, police in the Stavropol Territory have opened 56 criminal cases in connection with the manufacture, storage and distribution of counterfeit banknotes. Locals are asked to be careful when using cash.

According to the StavropolMedia news agency, the most common attackers forge banknotes with a face value of 5 thousand rubles. They usually mimic the basic security features of banknotes. At the same time, fake images often look fuzzy, the paint can wear off, and the paper stratifies at the folds.

If fakes are found, you must contact the internal affairs bodies. An attempt to sell a bill is criminalized.

In the Murmansk Region, the number of counterfeit banknotes has halved in 2025. A total of eight fakes were found.
