There have been 327 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 327 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 20 people were killed and 381 injured. 15 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on May 26 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
21 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, 24 more road users, including three children, needed medical help. 10 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 84 accidents, 25 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 59 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, and 80 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured pedestrians are 33 children under the age of 16, 25 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated places.
Also, 70 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 77 young road users were injured, including 15 child passengers and six motor transport drivers. There are no dead children.
During the end of the school year, the "last calls" at schools, the approach of final exams and the upcoming summer school holidays, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful on the roads of settlements and cities. Special care should be taken now when approaching educational organizations, as well as pedestrian crossings in the territories adjacent to them, slowing down in front of them until they come to a complete stop in order to allow children pedestrians to pass.
You should pay attention to the warning sign "Children", which informs drivers about the possible appearance of children on the roadway. He does not impose restrictions, but only calls for increased vigilance, the department recalled. The behavior of children on the road is often unpredictable, therefore, before resuming traffic, even at a permissive traffic light, you should make sure that the crossing is completely free of pedestrians. Drivers were urged to strictly follow the rules for transporting children.
In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminded parents of the need to be more attentive to their young children and try to ensure maximum safety for them on the road in the upcoming summer period: do not let preschool and primary school children go outside alone, without supervision, be sure to use reflective elements on their outerwear and monitor their wearing.
"Have an explanatory conversation with your children about the rules of safe cycling and personal mobility, paying special attention to the need to dismount when crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing. It is necessary to regularly tell them about the rules of the road, the dangers of entering the roadway and the need to follow the rules of safe behavior, especially when crossing the road. Focus on the fact that access to public roads for cyclists and drivers is allowed only when they reach the age of 14," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The lack of parental control on the street for children of preschool and primary school age in the spring and summer season often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department said. According to operational information, 1,743 accidents involving children occurred in Russia during the 25 days of May, in which 30 minor road users died, and another 1,893 were injured.
On May 21, the Russian government approved an action plan for the implementation of a Strategy to improve road safety for the period up to 2030 and for the future up to 2036. The plan contains more than 260 events. The main goal of the strategy is to reduce road deaths by one and a half times by 2030 and by two times by 2036 (compared to the level of 2023).
