The expert gave tips on keeping makeup on in the summer heat
The summer heat is a serious challenge not only for well—being, but also for appearance. By the middle of the day, makeup often loses its freshness, the skin gets a greasy shine, and jewelry begins to feel different due to contact with heated skin and sweat. Maria Verichenko, head of SOKOLOV BEAUTY, told Izvestia on May 28 about how to arrange care and think over the image so as to look collected even in the hottest hours.
In the heat, the skin works in a high-stress mode: sweating increases, sebum is released more actively, and pores expand. In parallel, ultraviolet light provokes dehydration, which paradoxically can make the skin appear both oily and tight. The usual care routine in such conditions ceases to cope, and standard thick creams, foundation products, and even makeup application techniques need to be reviewed.
"The main mistake in summer is to try to "cover up" the greasy shine with denser textures. This has the opposite effect: the skin loses its freshness faster, and the makeup rolls off. In the heat, the principle of layering light products works, rather than weighing them down," the expert noted.
According to her, the basic principle of summer care is the transition to light textures with an emphasis on hydration and protection. Dense nourishing creams should be replaced with gel creams, emulsions and fluids with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, panthenol. An obligatory step is SPF — you need to apply it not only before leaving the house, but also to update it during the day, especially if you spend a lot of time outside.
Special attention should be paid to the technique of applying makeup. It is better to apply the tone in a thin layer, choosing products marked long-wear or oil-free, and instead of thick powder, use mattifying wipes throughout the day — they remove excess sebum without weighing down the skin. Creamy textures of blush and shadows behave more capriciously than powdery ones in the heat, so basic summer makeup should be based on stable formulas and fixed with thermal water or fixing spray.
"Thermal water in the heat is a full—fledged working tool in the summer. It helps to restore skin comfort, relieve the feeling of overheating and "revitalize" makeup by the middle of the day," added Verichenko.
She noted that one should not forget about the areas that often remain outside of summer care: neck, decollete area, shoulders, hands. These areas are most exposed to the sun and rarely receive sufficient care. A light moisturizer and SPF on these areas in the morning, mist during the day and a restorative in the evening is a simple routine that helps the skin maintain an even tone and density even in the hottest months.
In addition, the expert recommended reviewing your habits: drink more water, avoid direct sun during peak activity hours if possible, and give your skin a break from heavy makeup on weekends.
On February 26, Elena Anoiko, cosmetologist at SM-Cosmetology, named the main mistakes Russians make when washing their faces. One of the most common mistakes is washing your face with too hot water. According to the expert, many people believe that high temperature helps to remove impurities better, but in practice it works the other way around.
