Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that increases the maximum duration of overtime from 120 to 240 hours per year. The document was published on May 25 on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The authors of the initiative noted that about 90% of Russians are willing to work beyond the norm, especially for the sake of additional earnings. However, the previous regulation did not allow employers to formalize such processing.

The new law is aimed at reducing the need to create almost 49,000 jobs in a number of industries. The increased overtime limit is allowed provided that it is fixed in a collective agreement or an industry agreement.

For some categories of employees, processing is still limited to 120 hours per year. Individual employees can be involved in overtime work only with their written consent and if there is a medical opinion on the absence of contraindications.

Andrei Isaev, deputy head of the United Russia faction, noted on May 14 that after 120 hours of overtime, overtime work would have to be paid at least double. According to him, such measures will be applied mainly at defense industry enterprises, where work is carried out in several shifts and there is a shortage of qualified specialists.
