- Baikal aircraft with a new engine successfully completed a test flight
The LMS-901 Baikal aircraft completed a test flight with measuring equipment at the airfield of the Ural Civil Aviation Plant, all equipment was operating normally. This was announced on May 25 by Gennady Abramenkov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
"The successful control testing of the Baikal aircraft with a domestic VK-800 engine is a significant event for the entire Russian aviation industry. We see that all systems are operating normally, and the domestic power plant demonstrates high reliability," he is quoted as saying in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Abramenkov noted that after the tests, the aircraft will have to be certified, after which its mass production will begin. According to him, this will be an important investment in the development of regional transportation and transport accessibility.
On the same day, Mikhail Parnev, General Director of the State Transport Leasing Company, said that the first copies of Baikal light-engine aircraft would be transferred to the Aerokhimflot Alliance of independent operators in 2027. He clarified that at the initial stage of operation, Baikal aircraft will be used for aviation operations.
