- The Ministry of Transport will study the issue of allowing motorcycles in the designated lanes
The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation is going to work out the issue of allowing motorcyclists into designated lanes for public transport. This was stated by the head of the Ministry Andrey Nikitin.
"As a biker, of course I'm in favor. As a minister, we need to think about security and work out this issue. I think it will be worked out, along with the issue of electric bicycles, we will need to see how to optimally build a traffic pattern," Alexander Yunashev, a journalist, quotes Nikitin in the Maks messenger on May 25.
At the plenary session on April 15, the State Duma rejected a bill that proposed allowing drivers of motorcycles, mopeds, and vehicles with the "Disabled" identification mark to drive in designated lanes for public transport.
As explained by the State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation, allotments are created to ensure priority and uninterrupted movement of public passenger transport, as well as to increase its attractiveness in comparison with individual transport. The use of such lanes by special vehicles (fire and medical services, police and others) is legally fixed solely for their urgent and urgent tasks, the committee noted.
According to Yaroslav Nilov, one of the authors of the bill, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, access to two-wheeled vehicles should help reduce accidents with their participation, since they are forced to maneuver in dense traffic, which unnerves other road users, provoking accidents.
In Moscow and St. Petersburg, the amount of the fine for driving in the designated lane is 4.5 thousand rubles, in the regions — 2.25 thousand rubles.
