In an interview with Radio 1 on Monday, May 25, the specialist noted that with all the beneficial properties, watermelon can also carry risks. According to her, it can provoke renal colic or a sharp spike in sugar, especially in people with hidden diseases.

Koroleva emphasized that watermelon should be consumed with caution in cases of urolithiasis and carbohydrate metabolism disorders, and also advised avoiding early berries of questionable quality.

The nutritionist added that the safest time to buy is the second half of July and August, when watermelons ripen closer to the region of consumption.

On May 21, internist, cardiologist, nutritionist and lipidologist Tatiana Zaletova told Moscow 24 that it is possible to maintain water balance by adding vegetables and fruits with a high water content to the diet, such as cucumbers, celery and watermelon. These products gradually deliver moisture, while simultaneously not giving potassium, notes 360.ru .

According to an analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), children and adults who regularly consume watermelon get more fiber, magnesium, potassium, as well as vitamins A and C. Thus, watermelon promotes cardiovascular health and improves the overall quality of the diet.

Natalya Vyalikova, a doctor, said that watermelon contains the antioxidant lycopene, which protects cells from destruction. According to the expert, watermelon also contains vitamins A, C, group B, potassium and magnesium. Due to the high sugar content, watermelon is not recommended for diabetes, and fiber can exacerbate gastrointestinal and kidney diseases, RT notes.

Infectious disease specialist Olga Stolyarova told the newspaper.Ru" that watermelon can be tested for nitrates using three methods: nitrate tests, test strips and using iodine. For example, if you drop a drop of iodine solution on the pulp of a watermelon and it turns blue, this is an indirect sign of a high nitrate content.

Before that, the chairman of the Association "People's Farmer of the Astrakhan region" Stepan Lesnichin said that early watermelons in Russia can be bought as early as July. For example, in the Orenburg region watermelons ripen in August, in the Krasnodar Territory they can start harvesting earlier, NSN clarifies.

Previously Pravda.Referring to nutritionist Anastasia Tarasco, she wrote that watermelon, if properly stored, can last up to six months, but when buying it, it is important to check its integrity and lack of odor. The expert also noted that berries should be stored in a ventilated area.
