- The expert explained the reasons for the Serbian president's announcement of his imminent resignation.
The beginning of the election campaign in the country is behind the statements of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic about his resignation from office. Oleg Bondarenko, the editor-in-chief of the Balkanist project, stated this in an interview with Izvestia on May 25.
"Alexander Vucic has repeatedly said that he is resigning as president anyway. Depending on the results of his party in the parliamentary elections, this may happen sooner or later. But do not take these words in such a way that Vucic will resign tomorrow. No, of course he won't," the specialist expressed confidence.
If the president's party is unable to create and maintain a parliamentary coalition, then it is quite logical to expect that he may resign from the post of head of state, he admitted. The analyst attributed this to the fact that if the majority in parliament is lost, Vucic's party will no longer be ruling.
Therefore, the Serbian president's words are not about tomorrow, but about the alignment that will happen after the elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia (unicameral parliament), which will be held in late October and early November.
