The number of car loans issued for new and used cars in April 2026 amounted to 84.3 thousand units, having decreased by 9.5% compared to the previous month. Compared to the same period last year, the number of car loans issued increased slightly (+1.8%). This was announced on May 25 by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI).

In comparison with the previous month, the volume of car loans decreased by 11.5% to 125 billion rubles. Compared to the same period last year, this figure increased by 19.6%.

The largest number of car loans in the regions in April was issued in Moscow (5.91 thousand units), the Moscow Region (5.15 thousand units), as well as Tatarstan (4.08 thousand units), St. Petersburg (3.88 thousand units) and the Krasnodar Territory (3.2 thousand units).

The most serious dynamics of the decrease in issuance was noted in St. Petersburg (-21.8%), Moscow (-19.2%), Rostov (-17.4%) and Moscow (-16.3%) regions, and Krasnodar Krai (-14%). The most serious growth was recorded in Novosibirsk (+3.5%) and Kemerovo (+2.6%) regions, Bashkortostan (+1.6%) and Samara Region (+1.1%).

As indicated in the NBKI, the number of car loans issued decreased after a slight recovery in the previous month, and overall issuance continues to remain at a low level. Alexey Volkov, the bureau's marketing director, explained that this indicates a low demand for car loans due to increased recycling, high interest rates and a general rise in car prices. At the same time, banks are increasing the requirements for borrowers.

On April 23, it was reported that in March of this year, the average amount of car loans issued amounted to 1.49 million rubles. Compared to the first month of spring last year, this figure increased by 22.3%.
