Remote fraudsters began to deceive pensioners, posing as employees of insurance companies and social protection agencies to steal money under the guise of accrual payments. This was announced on May 25 by the Russian Interior Ministry.

"The attackers, posing as employees of the housing and communal services and management companies, <...> notify of a payment under a certain pension support program, subject to prepayment," the Russian Interior Ministry quoted TASS as saying.

In addition, scammers use the legend of the need to update the compulsory health insurance policy. In this case, the purpose of criminals is to obtain personal data of citizens. There have also been cases of calls with offers to replace electricity or water meters at a discounted price.

The ministry stressed that the task of fraudulent call centers in the current conditions is not only the direct theft of funds. The attackers seek to establish psychological control over the victims in order to further involve them in criminal activities.

On May 19, the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about fraudsters using any topics to deceive. It was noted that it is possible to encounter scammers today with almost any online purchase, from equipment and clothing to educational courses and consultations.
