- The media reported on Macron's call for Minsk not to participate in the conflict in Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron, in a conversation with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, stated the risks for Belarus in the event of the country's involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported on May 24 by the French TV channel TF1.
In addition, Macron urged Lukashenko to take steps to improve Belarus' relations with European countries. As specified, the conversation between the presidents was held in a constructive manner.
Lukashenko and Macron had a telephone conversation on May 24 at the initiative of the French side. During the meeting, the presidents discussed regional issues and relations between Minsk and Brussels.
On May 9, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Igor Sekreta noted that Minsk is open to resuming dialogue with the member states of the European Union (EU). He added that Belarus is ready to restore mutually respectful relations with Germany, which would allow it to begin to untie problematic knots with the entire EU.
