The Interior Ministry warned about the fraud scheme with voice confirmation

Phone scammers have become more likely to use a criminal scheme with voice confirmation at the initial stages of deception. This was announced on May 24 by the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"Fraudsters are increasingly using a voice confirmation scheme at the first stage of the attack. The victim is called on behalf of a polyclinic, an insurance company, a telecom operator or a government agency, informed of the need to "confirm the data" and asked to repeat a pre—prepared phrase (for example, consent to data transfer, policy replacement or identity confirmation)," the Telegram channel says.

It is noted that after this, people begin to suggest that their voice was allegedly used to issue a power of attorney, log into services, or steal biometrics. The ministry stressed that such phrases do not allow access to bank accounts or the Gosuslugi portal. The work of biometric systems is much more complicated, they are not activated by the usual recording of a conversation.

The main purpose of such calls is not to technically hack devices, but to exert psychological pressure. Fraudsters create the illusion of an incident that has already occurred, put a person in a state of panic and anxiety, and then proceed to a multi-stage scheme of deception.

If, during a conversation, a person begins to be intimidated by responsibility before the law, the transfer of funds to the Ukrainian army or the theft of personal data, and is also required to switch to a messenger, the department recommends immediately ending the conversation.
