ABC News journalist Selina Wang reported that shots were fired near the White House. As NBC News correspondent Julie Zirkin noted, all the journalists who were on the north lawn were instructed to take shelter in the press conference room.

Later, the director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said that bureau agents had arrived at the scene of the shooting. At the same time, CBS News reported that a shootout occurred in the area of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

According to the Fox News channel, the attacker opened fire in the area of the presidential residence, after which the security forces began firing back. As a result of the incident, a man armed with a pistol was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

PBS correspondent Liz Landers said that one bystander was injured in the shooting.

She clarified that the American leader was not injured in the incident. Later, CBS reported that no one from the US Secret Service was injured in the shooting.
