Tagesspiegel has learned about the new position of former German Chancellor Scholz
Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will head the commission for cooperation with the countries of the Global South. This was reported on May 23 by the Tagesspiegel newspaper, citing sources.
"As several sources have confirmed to Tagesspiegel, the 67-year-old politician will soon head the so-called North-South Commission," the publication says.
It is noted that the purpose of this project of the ruling coalition of conservative parties and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) is to strengthen bilateral relations with the countries of the Global South and expand them into a global network.
According to the newspaper, the final decision has not yet been made, as details about the powers of the commission and the position of the deputy remain unknown.
On April 21, the Bundestag press service reported that former German Chancellor Angela Merkel had spent about €65,000 from the state budget on hairdressing and makeup artist services. In addition, she made nine trips from July 2024 to March 2026, spending more than 10 thousand euros. Scholz, in turn, made four trips, for which over €6 thousand was spent.
