What is forbidden to do on May 24 on Cyril and Methodius Day
Every year on May 24, Orthodox Christians honor the memory of Equal-to-the-Apostles Methodius, Archbishop of Moravia, who, together with his brother Cyril, preached Christianity and created the Slavic alphabet.
Their work formed the basis of modern alphabets of Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Serbs, Macedonians and many other peoples of Eastern Europe and parts of Asia. In the national calendar, the holiday was called Wet Wet.
In 2026, the date falls on a Saturday. According to tradition, prohibitions are observed on this day, including the recalculation of small coins, which, according to beliefs, can lead to tears and losses.
On August 22, the festival of Slavic art "Russian Field" will be held on Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow. It is expected that this year about 2 thousand people will take part in the event, and at least 150 thousand festival guests. There will be several themed festival venues in total. The ceremonial part will be held on the main stage: artists, choral and dance groups will perform in front of the guests.
