Magyar intends to travel to Brussels to discuss the unfreezing of funds for Hungary

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar will travel to Brussels next week to discuss with the European Commission the issue of unblocking European funds to support Hungary. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on May 23, citing a statement by the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Anita Orban.

"One of our most important tasks in the first few months is to gain access to the funds of the restoration and resilience fund, which amount to €10.4 billion for Hungary. And yes, I can confirm that a meeting is scheduled in Brussels next week," the minister said.

Orban confirmed that Hungary had already held multi-day talks with Brussels on the issue of frozen funds.

The minister also added that Budapest will seek to allocate €16 billion in military loans under the SAFE program. Despite the earlier refusal, Hungary will submit a new proposal to the European Commission for consideration.

The Politico newspaper reported on May 7 that the European Commission (EC) is not ready to unblock all blocked EU funds to Hungary, despite the planned change of power in the country. According to the newspaper, Brussels is negotiating with Magyar on the allocation of € 10.4 billion from the Reconstruction Fund.

Magyar said on April 29 that Hungary and the European Commission plan to conclude an agreement after May 25 that will allow Budapest to receive funds blocked by Brussels from the budget and special funds of the European Union.
