- A major terrorist attack involving a "live bomb" was prevented in the Belgorod region
A major terrorist attack was prevented in the Belgorod region, it was supposed to be committed by a local resident who was fraudulently recruited by the special services of Ukraine under the pretext of helping Russian law enforcement officers. This was announced on May 23 by the FSB's Public Relations Center.
According to the agency, the woman, under the influence of telephone fraudsters, transferred a large amount of money to a "secure account." Then unknown people contacted her, who introduced themselves as law enforcement officers, and under the pretext of returning stolen funds convinced her to take part in the "detention of criminals."
"According to the supervisor's plan, the victim had to remove an explosive device from the cache, deliver it to a public place and activate it. An explosion would inevitably lead to her death and significant civilian casualties," the FSB Central Control Center said in a statement.
However, the citizen noticed the deception and contacted the territorial security authorities herself. The FSB officers responded in a timely manner: the crime was prevented, and the explosive device was defused. Now the security forces are searching for the organizers of the terrorist attack and their accomplices.
The day before, the FSB Central Control Center reported that since the beginning of 2026, the special service has prevented 101 terrorist crimes in Russia, 78 of them terrorist attacks. The agency reminded the Russians that representatives of the special services of Ukraine do not reduce their activity when recruiting in the messengers Telegram and WhatsApp (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
