CBS has learned about Trump's interruption of a trip to New Jersey due to Iran
US President Donald Trump cut short his weekend trip to New Jersey in order to prepare for a possible new wave of attacks on Iran. This was reported on May 22 by the CBS News channel, citing sources.
"The president planned to spend the weekend <...> at his golf club in New Jersey, but now he will return to the White House," the publication says.
It is specified that the president planned to spend the weekend at his golf club. Some representatives of the US military and intelligence services, according to the channel, also canceled their weekend plans in anticipation of possible strikes.
On May 18, Trump said that Washington is currently not ready to make any concessions during negotiations with Tehran on ending the war. According to him, Tehran wants to make a "deal more than ever" because it realizes that the United States can cause "even more pain" by resuming strikes.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on May 22 that the resumption of the armed conflict in the Persian Gulf would lead to negative consequences for the entire world and its economy. He noted that Russia welcomes all mediation efforts aimed at advancing the process of negotiations to resolve the situation around Iran and stands for establishing a direct and honest dialogue between the key countries involved in the conflict.
