- The US State Department has approved the possible sale of equipment for the HAWK air defense system to Ukraine
The US State Department has approved the potential sale of equipment to Ukraine to ensure the operation of the HAWK anti-aircraft missile system in the amount of more than $ 108 million. This was announced on May 21 by the press service of the department.
"The US State Department has decided to approve the possible sale of HAWK (FrankenSAM HAWK) anti-aircraft missile systems to the government of Ukraine as part of the foreign military sales program," the State Department said in a statement.
It is specified that the main contractor will be Sierra Nevada Corporation. The statement claims that the deal meets the national interests of the American side and will not change the balance of power in the region.
Earlier, on May 20, it was reported that the Pentagon had revealed violations in the administration of non-competitive contracts in the framework of assistance to Ukraine totaling $4.5 billion. Inspectors have reviewed 10 contracts with a total value of $4.5 billion. According to the report, there was no proper monitoring of $439 million worth of services, so the US Army cannot confirm whether these works were actually completed.
