On May 21, the Prime Minister of the Canadian province of Alberta, Danielle Smith, announced that a referendum on the separation of the region from Canada would be held on October 19.
"I will ask our government to add an additional question to the previously announced October 19th referendum vote," she said in a video message released by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
