- The United States has banned the entry of citizens who have visited three African countries
The United States has temporarily restricted entry for foreigners who have visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda or South Sudan for the past 21 days due to the outbreak of the Bundibugio strain of Ebola in these regions. This was announced on May 21 by the press service of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
"The CDC has issued an order suspending the entry into the United States of foreign nationals who were in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda or South Sudan for 21 days prior to arrival," the publication says.
It clarifies that US citizens and legal permanent residents of the country who have been in these countries for the last 21 days are allowed to enter the territory of the state.
It is noted that, according to the decision of the Department of Homeland Security of the United States, such passengers will be sent to Washington International Airport for mandatory medical examination and filling out questionnaires. Additional checks have been introduced as part of measures to prevent the possible spread of the disease.
The BBC reported on May 19 that a new outbreak of Ebola that has hit the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda may be spreading much faster than previously thought. However, experts from the British Medical Research Council (MRC), having modeled the situation, estimated that there could be more than 1,000 infected people. They suggested that the doctors probably could not track a "significant part" of the cases.
On May 15, WHO declared the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda an international emergency, according to the website. kp.ru . On May 19, the press service of the Russian Union of Travel Industry also clarified that the outbreak of Ebola in the DRC does not affect mass tourist routes popular with Russian travelers.
