- A St. Petersburg man is awaiting trial for setting fire to 25 cars in a parking lot in Krasnodar
A criminal investigation into the arson of 25 cars in a covered parking lot has been completed in Krasnodar. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city on Thursday, May 21.
According to the investigation, last spring, a 27-year-old from St. Petersburg unsuccessfully extorted $30,000 from an unknown 32-year-old resident of Krasnodar. Having failed to achieve what he wanted, on the night of April 15, he came to a covered parking lot on Dmitry Blagoev Street and poured a flammable liquid over a foreign car from Krasnodar.
After setting the fire, he left the parking lot. The fire engulfed the car doused with liquid and then spread to neighboring vehicles. In total, 25 cars, one motorcycle and one electric bike burned down in the parking lot that night. The total amount of damage exceeded 20 million rubles.
The investigation of the criminal case under Part 3 of Article 163 ("Extortion"), Part 2 of Article 167 ("Intentional destruction or damage to property") and Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Destruction or damage to property by negligence") has been completed. The materials were submitted to the court for consideration on the merits.
According to KrasnodarMedia news agency, the Petersburger partially admitted his guilt, stating that he felt a personal dislike for the victim. The man faces up to 15 years in prison.
