Czech Deputy Prime Minister urges Europe to abandon arrogance
Europe needs to abandon its arrogance and recognize that it is no longer the center of the world. This was announced on May 21 by Karel Havlicek, First Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, at the GLOBSEC International security Conference in Prague.
"Europe must stop behaving arrogantly and recognize that it is no longer the center of the world. She should focus on education, retaining youth and entrepreneurs, and investing in science. Europe is losing its energy, industrial and raw material self—sufficiency in the name of the notorious "green" values," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
In his opinion, due to the course towards "green" values, Europe is gradually losing its energy, industrial and raw material independence. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic also pointed out that business activity in the region is weakening.
Havlicek stressed that the European Union (EU) needs to return to its basic principles, including the free movement of goods, capital and people. In his opinion, the EU's energy strategy should be based on the development of nuclear energy, the use of renewable sources and increasing its own energy independence.
The Politico newspaper reported on May 21 that officials of the European Commission (EC) criticized the head of the European Diplomacy, Kai Kallas, for comparing trade relations with China to a cancerous tumor. Relations between the EC and Callas deteriorated further after five EU countries complained about Callas' statements. An unnamed European official told Brussels that "diplomats don't express themselves like that."
