The Qadi Duma of the Russian Federation told which prayer to read on Eid al-Adha

On Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated in Russia on May 27 in 2026, believers perform a festive collective prayer (Eid al-namaz), read the Koran and glorify the Creator with takbiri, the first imam of the Nizhny Novgorod Cathedral Mosque, Qadi Munir-hazrat Beyusov, told Izvestia.

He called the celebration of Eid al-Adha a special ritual, the preparation for which begins in a few days: women from among the parishioners wash the mosque windows, men tidy up the territory.

On the evening before the holiday, men prepare festive clothes and buy groceries. From early morning in many villages, believers go to the mosque on foot, stopping every 50 m to pronounce the words of exaltation of the Almighty (takbir). Along the way, they also give alms to those in need.

"In the mosque, before the beginning of the festive prayer, verses (individual verses — Ed.) of the Venerable Koran are read, then all together they offer prayers for those who died during the Great Patriotic War and during the Holy War. Believers ask the Lord to send peace and tranquility to Russia," Munir-Hazrat said.

The main divine service of the holiday is considered to be a two-rite festive prayer, during which individual surahs (chapters) are recited The Qur'an: "al-Fatiha" ("Revealing"), and also often — surah "al-A'la" ("The Most High"). According to Munir Hazrat, during Eid al-Adha, Muslims also turn to the surahs al-Hajj ("Pilgrimage") and al-Qausar ("Abundance"), which contain instructions on Hajj, monotheism, prayer and sacrifice for the sake of the Almighty. Takbirs are pronounced between the reading of the surahs.
