The official visits that Russian President Vladimir Putin and White House Chief of Staff Donald Trump made to the People's Republic of China (PRC) within a couple of days of each other have increased the pressure exerted on Ukraine. This was reported on May 20 in the newspaper Myśl Polska (MP).

"After the two-day summit in Beijing, [the Chinese President] Xi Jinping and Donald Trump supported "significant efforts" for a diplomatic solution, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made it clear that Beijing expects "a cessation of hostilities as soon as possible." <...> Vladimir Putin's arrival in Beijing <...> confirms that all three superpowers are coordinating their actions, leaving everything to Kiev less room for maneuver," the article says.

It is noted that the situation is also negatively affected by the behavior of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky. He continues to "hoard European money," issuing ultimatums to Moscow and Washington. The Ukrainian leader, as emphasized, is not inclined to a peaceful settlement, while the population of his state continues to decline due to mass migration.

In a joint statement on May 20, Russia and China agreed on the need to completely eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis based on compliance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations (UN). Their text noted that the Russian and Chinese sides support all efforts to establish long-term peace.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later once again recalled Russia's openness to a peaceful settlement. According to him, the main obstacle in this process is the Ukrainian leader. Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said on May 19 that the negotiation process to resolve the conflict was at an impasse. He noted that US President Donald Trump "sincerely strives" to resolve the crisis.
