The entomologist gave tips on protection from ticks
Entomologist Roman Khryapin told us what preventive measures are necessary to protect against a tick bite.
In conversation with aif.ru On Thursday, May 21, an expert noted that ticks do not jump or chase a person — they sit on grass or bushes and cling when a person is nearby.
The entomologist emphasized that clothes should be light and fit snugly to the body, without exposed skin areas where a tick can bite. At the same time, according to him, the requirements for outerwear are less strict, since the tick can be noticed while it rises higher on the body.
Since the beginning of the season, more than 84,000 Russians have turned to doctors after being bitten by ticks, while about the same number of victims, according to experts, did not seek medical help.
Earlier that day, Rospotrebnadzor reported that European forest, taiga and meadow ticks pose the greatest epidemiological risks for Russians, according to RIAMO. These three species are the main carriers of human-dangerous infections in the country, writes RT.
The day before, on May 20, Khryapin said that the most dangerous ticks prefer spruce forests with an admixture of birches and aspens. The most dangerous ixodes ticks, which carry encephalitis, live in forests in the European part of Russia, notes 360.ru .
At the same time, Gennady Onishchenko, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Deputy president of the Russian Academy of Education, said that over the past five to six years, the number of municipalities in the Moscow region where ticks with the encephalitis virus have been detected has decreased by more than 15 times, the Moscow City News agency notes.
Prior to that, on May 19, virologist Alexander Chepurnov, in an interview with NSN, noted that weather conditions affect the activity of animals that carry ticks even to already treated areas. According to him, "the ticks in the whole country will go away by the end of June."
