Andrey Tumanov, chairman of the Moscow Horticultural Union, warned on Thursday, May 21, about the marketing tricks used by strawberry sellers.

In conversation with aif.ru The expert noted that inscriptions like "Crimean" or "Krasnodar" on price tags do not always correspond to the real origin of the berry. According to him, there are not enough of their own products in Crimea, so berries are also imported there, and local supplies are not massive. At the same time, as Tumanov emphasized, brands work at the expense of demand — buyers more often choose "their own" than imports.

He added that a significant part of the garden strawberries on the shelves are imported, and they are often as good as local ones in quality, but sellers may conceal their origin.

The expert also stressed that over the years of inspections at the markets, he had never been able to obtain accompanying documents: sellers, according to him, usually claim that "the owner has the documents, but the owner has left."

Earlier that day, Antonina Levashenko, head of the Gaidar Institute's Laboratory for the Analysis of best international practices, told the Moscow City News agency that strawberries account for 80% of the demand for berries in the capital this season. Cherries, currants and raspberries are also in the top.

The day before, infectious disease specialist Mariyat Mukhina warned that unwashed strawberries can lead to infection with parasites. The doctor recommended thoroughly rinsing the berry under cool running water, then soaking it in a fruit washing solution for 10 minutes and then rinsing it again. kp.ru .

At the same time, Tumanov urged not to be afraid to try strawberries on the market, but be sure to wash them before use. According to the expert, good berries should have a pleasant aroma and attractive appearance, notes 360.ru . Early May strawberries are not dangerous when it comes to quality products. Neutral-day varieties allow it to be grown in greenhouses all year round, writes RT.

Biologist Vitaly Polov told on May 14 that children can eat no more than 150 grams of strawberries per day. According to him, initially the child should not be given more than two or three berries. For adults, the daily allowance of strawberries is 200-300 g, NSN specifies.

Nutritionist Natalia Pavlyuk warned about the consequences of excessive consumption of strawberries. According to her, people with allergies, individual intolerance or cross-allergic reactions should be more careful with berries.
