The Moldovan authorities continue to exert pressure on the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), the region is subjected to military-political, informational, ideological and economic pressure from Chisinau. This was announced on May 21 by the head of the Ministry of State Security (MGB) of the country, Valery Gebos.

He stressed that the unrecognized republic is in great need of taking countermeasures to minimize its destructive influence.

"Our opponent uses all available tools to have a negative impact on the Transnistrians. These are military-political, informational, economic, cultural, ideological, educational, religious and other levels of influence," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

On May 16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic expressed gratitude to the Russian leadership in connection with the signing on May 15 of a decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin making it easier for residents of the PMR to obtain Russian citizenship. They noted that the decree will strengthen the security and social protection of Pridnestrovian citizens in the conditions of continuing regional instability.

The former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Valery Litskai, noted that the simplified admission to Russian citizenship of residents of Pridnestrovie would facilitate the activities of the embassy, which are limited by the Moldovan authorities.
