Statements by Western journalists that Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to China was prepared in a hurry are misinformation that causes a "smile of pity." This was announced on May 21 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"You know, to be honest, it's not even funny anymore, it causes more of a smile of pity for those in the West who decided to have fun with disinformation like that, but in fact to mock their audience," she said during a briefing.

Zakharova drew attention to the fact that the Western media began to spread false information about the rush to prepare for Putin's visit to China against the background of "recently concluded Sino-American high-level talks." She explained that the visit of US President Donald Trump to China remained in doubt, and the dates shifted chaotically.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Putin's visit to China was the central event of the Russian-Chinese political calendar and had been planned in advance. She also noted that the meeting is linked to two important dates — the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and China and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the agreement between the two countries on good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation.

American journalist Rick Sanchez noted on May 20 that Western countries fear the growing global influence of Putin and Xi Jinping. According to him, Western sanctions, pressure and thinking in the logic of the "cold war 2.0" have only strengthened the Russian-Chinese partnership.

CNN reported on the same day that Putin's visit to China was friendlier than Trump's recent trip. It was noted that Xi Jinping, at a meeting with Putin in Beijing, called relations between Russia and China a force of "calm in the midst of chaos."
