- The media reported on the summoning of the Israeli ambassador to the Dutch Foreign Ministry because of a video with activists
After the publication of footage of the mistreatment of the Sumud flotilla members, including six Dutch nationals, the kingdom's Foreign Ministry demanded an explanation from the Israeli ambassador. This was reported on May 20 by the NOS TV channel.
"Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen has summoned the Israeli Ambassador to the Netherlands for an explanation," the publication says.
According to the TV channel, the reason was the publication by the country's Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Guir, on the social network X (former. Twitter) a video where Israeli law enforcement agencies lay an activist on the ground with her hands tied. The rest of the detainees are on their knees, facing the floor.
It is clarified that Berendsen has already conveyed the position of the Netherlands to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. The Kingdom is waiting for an apology from the Israeli authorities.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barraud announced on May 20 that Israel's ambassador to France, Joshua Zarqa, would have to arrive at the republic's Foreign Ministry to provide explanations in connection with Ben-Gwer's publication of a video humiliating pro-Palestinian activists of the Sumud flotilla. After the publication of the video and the scandal on social media, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also demanded an apology from Israel, and the country's Foreign Ministry decided to summon the Israeli ambassador. The Spanish Foreign Ministry made the same decision and summoned the Israeli Charge d'affaires to the Ministry.
On the same day, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs detained 430 pro-Palestinian activists of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was heading to the shores of the Gaza Strip. It was noted that all of them have been transferred to Israeli vessels and are heading to Israel, where they will be able to meet with their consular representatives. According to the country's Foreign Ministry, the flotilla's attempt to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza was "just a PR stunt" in the interests of the Palestinian Hamas group.
