The British government has apologized for the decision to ease sanctions against Russia, which was aimed at preventing shortages of diesel fuel and aviation kerosene. This was reported on May 20 by Bloomberg, citing the authorities of the United Kingdom.

"We handled it clumsily, and it's entirely my fault, I apologize: as a result, we created the wrong impression of what we're trying to achieve," the agency's trade minister Chris Bryant said in a statement.

It is noted that the easing of sanctions has caused criticism in the UK and Ukraine. According to the agency, this step was perceived as an attempt to reduce the burden on the British due to the cost of living to the detriment of the pressure on the Russian economy.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Special presidential envoy for Investment and Economic Cooperation, criticized the British government on May 20 after it announced the import of Russian petroleum products through third countries. He reacted to the publication that the British authorities had apologized for allowing purchases of Russian petroleum products through third countries, calling it an oversight and an unfortunate decision.

On May 18, the British Ministry of Finance announced that the UK had indefinitely allowed the import of diesel and aviation fuel produced from Russian oil in third countries. The document also authorizes the provision of certain services and operations related to the import of these goods.
