You can become infected with the Ebola virus only through contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person. This was announced on May 21 at the Russian office of the World Health Organization (WHO).

"You can get the virus from another person only through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of a patient or deceased from Ebola, or through objects or surfaces contaminated with body fluids (such as blood, feces, vomit)," RIA Novosti quoted the WHO as saying.

It is noted that the virus cannot be infected by airborne droplets.

Gennady Onishchenko, an epidemiologist and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said on May 20 that the main symptoms of Ebola include fever, weakness and muscle pain. The incubation period, the expert recalled, ranges from two to 21 days, followed by diarrhea, abdominal pain and a dry cough, leading to dehydration. According to the doctor, about half of the patients develop hemorrhagic rash and bleeding from the gums and nose, and the liver and kidneys gradually fail.

Earlier this day, the Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that the number of suspected deaths from Ebola had increased to 139, RT reports.

On May 15, WHO declared the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda an international emergency, according to the website. kp.ru . On May 19, the press service of the Russian Union of Travel Industry also clarified that the outbreak of Ebola in the DRC does not affect mass tourist routes popular with Russian travelers.
