FAS proposed to make the pricing of fish products more transparent
The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has proposed to simplify the fish supply chain in order to curb price increases, including by reducing the number of intermediaries. This was reported by the FAS press service on May 20.
"To curb price changes, it is necessary to optimize the supply chain by reducing the number of intermediaries between the stages of extraction, processing and sale," the publication says on the agency's website.
It is noted that the agency is currently analyzing the data obtained after the introduction of mandatory registration of over-the-counter transactions. Based on the results of this analysis, additional measures will be taken to increase the transparency of pricing. Measures were also being worked out to reduce the transport component in the cost of fish, in particular by increasing the volume of transportation at preferential railway tariffs from the regions of the Far East.
Earlier, on May 19, it was reported that in January-April 2026, sales of black caviar in Russia decreased by 22% in physical terms, and in monetary terms — by 13%. According to Dmitry Leonov, deputy chairman of the board of the Rusprodsoyuz association, consumers are increasingly choosing cheaper red caviar.
