Shoigu declared Yerevan's mockery of the memory of Armenians
Yerevan, by providing President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky with a podium to threaten the Victory Day parade in Moscow, mocked the memory of Armenians who fought against Nazism. This was announced on May 20 by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu.
"Providing the Kiev regime with the rostrum of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan for threats against the Russian Federation.<...> This is nothing but a mockery of the memory of more than half a million Armenians who fought against Nazism, <...> not sparing their lives," he said at a meeting of the special working group.
Shoigu also wondered what the renowned marshals of the Great Patriotic War would say to this action by Armenia.
On May 4, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held talks with Zelensky at the European Political Community (ENP) summit in Yerevan. The parties discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral relations.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stressed on the same day that Yerevan had violated its promises not to take steps against Moscow. According to the diplomat, if this is the case with assurances, it means that the Armenian leadership is not keeping its promises not only to Russia and its citizens.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said on May 20 that Moscow was amazed that Armenia had provided Zelensky with a platform for making threats against the Russian Federation. According to him, no one in Armenia condemned these statements.
