Interior designer, architect, and owner of an architecture and design studio, Maria Borovskaya, explained why Russians are increasingly choosing "grandma's interiors."
In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, May 20, the expert noted that this trend is largely due to the popularity of the mid-century style, which still remains relevant.
She gave an example from her own experience, saying that her grandmother's old chairs were used in the office, which were updated and covered with new fabric. According to her, such things get a second life, organically fitting into a modern interior, despite the fact that they originally belong to a different era, and acquire a new stylistic sound.
Borovskaya stressed that it is important to act competently and with taste in this matter. She added that the desire to return something warm to the interior, associated with childhood and family memories, is now combined with global trends, where such a style is once again considered fashionable.
Professional designer Veronica Antelava named popular interior styles. According to her, Art Deco stands out among the key trends today, which is undergoing a noticeable transformation. Other current trends include warm minimalism and modern folklore, which is a reinterpretation of ethnic style within the framework of contemporary design.
In April, designer Olga Manukovskaya said that Russians began to abandon monochrome interiors in favor of bright solutions.
